Kristen Doherty

Kristen Doherty is a seven-times published and internationally produced playwright, who has been a writer, director, educator and theatre maker for twenty years. She specializes in large cast plays for young people and has an unhealthy Shakespeare obsession. Over the past two years, there have been more than two hundred productions of her plays in schools and theatre companies all over the world, as well as every state of Australia.

Kristen has now delved into the world of screenwriting with ‘Queer Tas’, a 4x1 hour TV series which is in development with Matthewswood Productions, and is also contracted as head writer on a series of fable-inspired screenplays for an animation series for a Canadian production company. Kristen's short, comedic adaptation of Macbeth was made into a film by Shakespeare's Kids & Little Shakespeare's Theatre Company in Scotland. The film and the script is held as part of a collection in the National Archives at the National Museum of Scotland.  She is mamma to three beautiful teenage daughters, a spoodle, and a few cats and has been renovating a rambling old Tudor/Fachwerk home in the Adelaide Hills with her much more reno-savvy husband for the past five years (with no end in sight).
